Living a Dream
Matt B's main street pizza is a product of determination
Life is full of dreams and dreamers. It has been said that determination and hard work can turn any dream into reality. Matthew Bartholomy is the perfect example that dreams can come true. He had always longed to have his own restaurant where he could create his original style of pizza, and he has been doing that for 1- ½ years.
Matt B's Main Street Pizza has provided the stage on which he performs every day. Making pizza is an art from for Matt. He makes the dough and gently tosses it in the air until it conforms to the perfect shape. His special sauces and the best of cheeses are topped with carefully chosen fresh vegetable, and once again he has created his own Italian Style pizza. The Calzone is also one of his specialties.
Artistic freedom and his childhood dream of making pizzas lead him to leave a 15-year career behind. Matt was the District Manager for Mr. Gatti's and attended numerous trade shows. He also stayed current with trade magazines. But working with such a large chain, he had to use their recipe and process, and after a while he was ready to try his own.
Matt attributes his success to his family, friends, and staff, but most of all to his parents and grandmother. John and MaryJo Bartholomy supported their son in his endeavors. John set things into motion by helping Matt to find the perfect location for his business and then got the building permits. Mr. Bartholomy did all of the carpentry work and Mrs. Bartholomy chose the décor and design and helped put it in place. Mildred McCabe (his grandmother) was also on hand to help in every way possible. Aside from the help from his parents, Matt says this of his staff: “The staff is really supportive of each other and we are sort of like an extended family.”
Matt has been known to wash dishes or make deliveries when necessary—whatever it takes to make his business a continued success. He occasionally finds the time and energy to play golf, but the rest of the time he can be found at his restaurant perfecting his latest work of art, and living his dream.
